Pandemic Corona, Fitbit Switch Makes Ventilator
Fitbit is a manufacturer of wearable devices and fitness tracking services. During the pandemic COVID-19 will temporarily divert production to make a ventilator.
The plan is awaiting FDA approval. Then the company will cooperate with vendors from Taiwan. Fitbit will consult with doctors, including at Massachusetts General Brigham and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).
The company’s initial plan was to send the technology to the United States Food and Drug Administration to be used by Corona patients.
Last March during the first wave of COVID-19 patients, many experienced severe breathing, and several US states experienced difficulties due to lack of ventilators.
Ventilators may not be very effective in preventing death in Corona virus patients according to recent medical research. But the likelihood of cases can increase again when many countries have begun to loosen lockdown rules so there is a possibility that a second wave could occur so that demand for ventilators might increase again.
Fitbit will make a ventilator to meet the level of demand both in the United States and in countries around the world.
The company has the infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities. They produce 10 million wearable devices per year and plan to increase it to produce whatever volume product is needed.
Fitbit did not explain how the ability of the ventilator, but ika claims the ventilator will be made and designed with the most sophisticated technology and will be available at a cheaper price.
